Attachment parenting is a form of parenting that has been a part of human history for centuries. This includes several forms of bonding activities between parent and child that work to promote a healthy and close bond. Indeed, attachment is one of the most important terms in parenting. Being an attached parent does not simply mean you care about child, it means that you incorporate bonding with baby to your lifestyle. Parents can benefit by strengthening parent child bond through attachment parenting.

Although parts of attachment parenting is usually undertaken by mothers (particularly if mothers choose to nurse their little ones then they need to be more available), fathers can adopt this style of parenting as well. It can positively contribute towards strengthening your bond with your bundle of joy.

The main philosophy behind attachment parenting is to maintain close contact between parent and baby as much as possible. This contributes towards creating an emotional bond and connect. Although your baby may not remember you constantly holding him/her, your baby will remember you being there for him. This feeling will not go away even after years of growth and maturing. Below are a few ways parents practice attachment parenting with their little ones.

  1. Breastfeeding

When breastfeeding, several hormones such as oxytocin are released into the mother’s bloodstream. This in turn helps to improve the emotional bonding between the mother and the child as the mother is able to exactly know when the baby is hungry and to assess the baby’s needs.

  1. Babywearing

Wearing the baby refers to the act of holding the baby constantly near to your body. This can be done by the father as well as the mother. Baby wearing does not only encompass carrying your kid, but also includes holding your child in a sling. This makes sure that the parent never loses sight of the baby and helps the parents monitor the baby’s expressions. This further assists the parents to recognize the child’s likes and dislikes. This also involves the baby in the parents’ day to day activities and helps the baby build a few strong childhood memories of his parents. If you are a working mother or father, advisors say you should try to wear your baby for at least 4-5 hours per night.

  1. Baby reading

Baby reading refers to the approach through which the parent “reads” the signals sent by the baby. This makes the parent more sensitive towards the baby’s expressions and helps them evaluate the feelings their baby is undergoing. This helps to build a strong parent-child understanding that can last possibly throughout your lifetime.

In other words attachment parenting encourages a more hands-on approach with parenting. Like most other practices it has a spectrum, so, follow what is practical and enjoy a strengthened bond with baby.
